OUR VINEYARDS

Arione
The Arione estate is situated at the southern-most border of the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, at an altitude of approximately 400 meters above sea level, in a splendid southern exposure. This historic Barolo cru is the property of the Gigi Rosso family. Here we find Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo wine and Barbera d’Alba. The limestone-clay-based soil is ideal for red wines of great finesse, structure and long aging.

Moncolombetto
The Moncolombetto estate boasts an extraordinary panoramic position, at 500 meters of altitude, it provides a 360-degree view of the entire Langhe wine district. According to legend, it owes its name to the French general Colombier, who positioned his artillery here at the end of the 1700’s to bombard the castle of Diano. Today it is an estate of 5 hectares consisting almost entierly of dolcetto, the variety that best express itself in the vineyards of the Diano d’Alba doc area.

Rocca e Giovino
There are two large estates nestled along the large expanse of terrain on the hilltop of Altavilla d’Alba, enclosed between the Tanaro river and Barbaresco vineyards. The writer Beppe Fenoglio describes this fortunate area “… where the snow disappears before it barely touches the ground”. These 17 hectares provide ample space for the planting of various grape varietals: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Freisa, wich have in common a uniquely intense fruity character.

Description: TRECOMUNI is a Cantina Gigi Rosso registered trademark. According to the ancient Piedmontese tradition, in order to obtain a perfect Barolo, one has to source grapes from three different terroir. The Helvetian soil of Serralunga or Monforte will contribute character and longevity, the mixed soil of Barolo, Castiglione or Novello will bring finesse and elegance and finally the Tortonian soil of La Morra or Verduno will deliver fruit and freshness. From the union of three “Communes” this Barolo was born, thus combining all great features of different Barolo terroir soil types. Four years ago this ancient tradition became Maurizio Rosso’s new project. It has finally become true and it is ready for you to taste.

Denomination: Barolo docg
Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo
Origin: Serralunga d’Alba (CN)
Single-vineyard (Cru): Arione
Alcohol: 14.5 % vol.
Total Acidity: 5.5 g/l.
Dry Extract: 28 g/l.
Vinification: Natural fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Aging: 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels
Bottle Aging: 6 months in the bottle
Description: This Barolo comes from one of the most historically renowned single vineyards  in the township of Serralunga d’Alba, and is situated in a splendid south-facing exposure. The meticulous care given to the vineyards together with a yield of less than 70 quintals per hectare, guarantees the highest level of quality. During  its long aging in Slavonian  oak and in the bottle, the wine develops its characteristic flavors: tar (also known as  ‘goudron’ in French), black cherry, dried herbs and spices that render the wine unique and famous.
Color: Intense garnet-red with lively orange highlights.
Bouquet: A rich bouquet of licorice, dried flowers, ripe black cherries, earth and spice, with a balsamic note of mint-leaf in certain vintages.
Taste: Full-bodied, warm and intense. Dry and pleasantly tannic with mineral notes. The structure is powerful and at the time elegant which makes the wine approachable already in its fourth year of aging, although it continues to mature in the bottle and can normally be kept at least 10 years.
James Suckling: Aromas of ripe fruit, dried mushroom and flowers follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a rich and intense finish. Very powerful and beautiful. Better in 2018 but already gorgeous to taste. (95)
Publish Date: Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Wine Spectator: Leather, spice, licorice and tar flavors are the main themes, the sweet fruit followed by firm tannins as this builds in intensity to a long, lingering finish. Best from 2020 through 2033. 1,000 cases made. (92)
Food accompaniment: Meat dishes, especially braised meat (Brasato al Barolo) and game, also aged cheeses

Origin: Altavilla d’Alba (CN)
Alcohol: 14% vol.
Total Acidity: 5.5 g/l.
Dry Extract: 25 g/l.
Vinification: Traditional in temperature controlled steel tanks. As for all wines made from Nebbiolo grapes, the maceration is crucial for the final quality of the wine. Aging: 18 months in large Slavonian Oak barrels
Bottle Aging: 6 months
Description: This noble wine proudly carries the name of its grape varietal. Just next to the more renowned Barolo and Barbaresco appellations, Nebbiolo d’Alba grows on the rolling hills in the lower Langhe and Roero. The version “Superiore” is aged 18 months in oak barrels to reach its austere and dignified equilibrium.
Color: Dark ruby red
Bouquet: Long-lasting and persuasive bouquet of woodland flowers and dried herbs, with hints of red berries.

Gigi-Rosso-Roero-ArneisROERO ARNEIS DOCG – 2015

Denomination: Roero Arneis DOCG
Variety: 100% Arneis
Origin: Monteu Roero (CN)
Altitude of vineyard: Approx. 400m above sea level

Description: “Arneis” in Piedmontese dialect means ‘mischievous child’ and perhaps this was true of the awkward antique vine “Arnesium”, which has been grown in Roero since medieval times, and later abandoned. Over the last twenty years, the success of Arneis has brought about the oenological ‘rebirth’ of the beautiful Roero, which has re-established itself as home to this noble white wine, which has great personality and is ideal as an aperitif or with cold starters. Roero Arneis Gigi Rosso is produced from grapes from Cascina Rivetto, in Monteu Roero, the heart of the DOCG zone.
Color: Straw-yellow with greenish highlights
Bouquet: Intense and delicate with notes of fresh fruit, in particular apricot and peach as well as scents of woodland flowers and herbs such as sage.
Taste: Pleasingly dry and intense with light mineral notes and a pleasant hint of bitter almond on the finish. Never overly acidic, but rather soft and balanced
Food accompaniment: Aperitif and cold starter
