Near the ancient Pieve di Gavi, posi-Romanesque building dating back to 1100 AD and now a national monument, is located at the tops of the ancient Pieve farmhouse, built in 1700, called “The Rocchin“, named after one of its former owners. The farm is located along the middle reaches of the river Lemme was surrounded by a plantation of fruit stones and a small vineyard and remained uninhabited until 1982, when Bruno Zerbo and his family settled there in the vicinity and built a new complex conversion to a home laboratories.
Zerbo’s family goal was to commemorate the old historical place with the same name of the place, thus Il Rocchin. In the beginning the the property spread out 60 hectares of which 26 are vine-cultivated, was devoted to cow breeding and milk production, side by side with vine growing. They came to their first bottling line in 1992.
According to the area the most important vine variety to be grown is the Cortese, that gives the white Cortese di Gavi or Gavi, that is designated with the highest ranks of DOCG appellation and that boasts its best features in this zone with a perfect soil mixed of limestone, clay and sandy gravels with thin stripes.
Side by side, from it’s vineyards Monferrato the Rocchin Winery sets an outstanding growing of red Dolcetto and Barbera varieties. The Winery is located in the Gavi Municipality, one of the most important Italian wine district and town. During the centuries the geographic link between the land between Piemonte and Liguria, between the sea and the inland and this territory is full of art and tradition easily connected to big cities such as Genoa, Turin, Milan and, in most cases, reachable through highway and motorways.
The cultivation of vineyards is historically a “Gavi” or “Cortese di Gavi“, native grape variety that takes its name from the town, and that in these zones shows its best characteristics thanks to limestone clay soils mixed with fine sand strata.
The company, however, with its vineyards in the nearby Alto Monferrato alongside the cultivation of significant productions of grapes Cortese “Trick” and “Barbera“. The farm is located in the municipality of Gavi, on the left bank of the Lim river valley, in a rich historical and cultural traditions and ideas that territory through the capital marks the natural watershed Apennine between Piedmont and Liguria and is easily accessible from major centers such as Genoa, Turin and Milan and beyond, thanks to the happy position very well served by roads and highways.

The grape harvest is usually performed manually from the end of September, vinification is the classic white with soft pressing of grapes and fermentation in stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts.
Pairs well with appetizers and vegetable dishes with delicate sauces, seafood entrees, rice and pasta with seafood and fish and white meats. Serve at 10°C (50°F) in medium-width goblets.
